China’s ‘shoebox’ media buying blitz is ‘a gift’

Online media companies are getting into the game, buying up local media companies in China and other countries.

While there are currently no national Chinese-language newspapers and TV stations that own all their content in English, the online marketplaces have grown and are now worth tens of millions of dollars in China.

A Chinese news website called China Times bought a company called Xiyu Media in November.

China Times, which owns about 40% of Xiyum Media, has offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong.

The news website says the deal will enable it to produce more news for Chinese audiences, according to the company’s website.

Xiyum is based in the eastern province of Anhui, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) from Shanghai.

It has about 1,600 employees, most of them based in Shanghai.
